Obituary

Morey (Mohamed) Ibrahim Vohra, 80, of Coventry, CT passed away peacefully on Tuesday, November 16, 2021.  He was born April 1st, 1939 in a rural village in Gujurat, India, the son of the late Ibrahim Vohra, and mother, unknown.  He studied in his village for primary schooling and then graduated from Maharaja Sayajirao University of Baroda

in Electrical Engineering with a Bachelor’s degree.  He then immigrated to the United States and graduated from University of Wisconsin, Milwaukee, where he studied Industrial Engineering graduating with a Masters of Science.  He was employed by the United States Government at Pratt &Whitney in East Hartford, for 33 years until his retirement in 2016 at the age of 75.  Previously, he was employed at Boeing Aircraft in Seattle, Washington.  While in India, he also worked for the government installing electricity in poor villages.

Morey was a loving, father, husband and big brother to his half-siblings and dear friends.  He will fondly be remembered as a hard-working and responsible man to his family and his career.  He came from extremely humble beginnings but made sure he provided for his family so they had what was needed.  It was important to him that his family value education as a means to escape from poverty and did his best to teach them to be independent and respectful as he tried to inspire.  He made modest but meaningful donations, such as to educational institutions, the Mosques and the local food pantry.

Morey enjoyed simple pleasures such as reading, praying, and watching sports such as the UCONN women’s basketball, boxing, wrestling and tennis.  He would take his children fishing when they were young at a local pond.  He was very handy and enjoyed do-it yourself projects.  He also participated in bowling with his colleagues.  He loved cats and a pet bird and enjoyed planting trees.

He was a very quiet, pensive and serious man but his smile could warm anyone.

Those who knew Morey well, appreciated the legacy of his spirit of thankfulness of the gifts of Allah (God), which included his loving wife, family, colleagues and his education from his teachers and advisors.

Morey leaves to celebrate his memory, his wife of over 55 years, Hasina M. Vohra of Glastonbury, CT and his children, Aziz Vohra, Parveen Vohra, son-in-law, Kenneth Warner, his daughter-in-law, Reshma Vohra, and his grandson, Tahir Vohra as well as his younger siblings, Allarakahbhai Vohra, the late Abdulbhai Vohra, the late Jubedahben Vohra, Shirazbhai Vohra, Illyasbhai Vohra, Jerinaben and Dowdbhai Vohra as well as his nieces and nephews and many other relatives, friends and co-workers.
