Richard Wayne Hassett

December 14, 1929 — April 6, 2023

Richard (Dick) Hassett, 93, of Manchester, passed away at his home on April 6, 2023, after a long and full life, surrounded by his family.

Richard was born on December 14, 1929, in Hartford, CT and graduated from Manchester High School in 1948. In 1947, he met his wife Jean, and they wed in 1950, going on to have three sons. They were married for an amazing 72 years and are now together again.

Richard worked in the construction industry and was a member of the Wood, Wire, and Metal Lather's Union. He also spent a number of years working at Manchester Country Club. He helped teach his sons and granddaughters how to golf, and volunteered to help the MHS girls golf team. He and Jean traveled to Florida and Myrtle Beach during the winters, where they enjoyed spending time with friends. They relocated to Rochester, NY in 2008 after the birth of their first great grandchild, where they resided until 2020, when they moved back to Manchester.

He was an amazing watercolor painter, gifting many paintings to friends and family. He most enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, attending all the activities and sporting events he could. He was always up for whatever activity was offered and was agreeable to whatever the day might bring. He brought a calm presence and could warm the room with his smile.

Richard was predeceased by his wife Jean, mother Grace (Crawford) Hassett, father Edward Hassett, and son Stephen Hassett. He is survived by his sons David and Kurt (Linda), granddaughters Liz (Mike), Stephanie (Jeff), and Katherine, great-grandchildren Emma, Owen, Ben, and Andrew, and relatives Pat, Debbie, Dale, special friends Donna, Deb, and Cheryl and extended family in Rochester, NY.

A graveside service will be held at East Cemetery 220 East Center St Manchester Saturday April 15 at 10am.  Friends and family may join in a celebration of life following the service from 11am to 2pm at Café Aura 45 East Center St Manchester.

The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Alzheimer's Association.

As he would say every night, thank you for another wonderful day, I love you.
