Rene Joseph Charland

Rene Joseph Charland, 71, of Marlborough, CT passed away on October 4, 2025 at Hartford Hospital. Rene was born June 10, 1954 in Hartford and grew up in Tolland, CT. He graduated from Tolland High School in 1972 and attended and graduated from Eastern CT State University with a BA in Mathematics. Rene worked for Aetna Insurance Co. for the majority of his career before retiring in 2017.

Rene was an avid athlete and competitor throughout his entire life. He especially enjoyed competing in road races, golf, and poker. Some accomplishments he was most proud of are qualifying for and finishing the Boston Marathon multiple times and going twice to Las Vegas to compete in the World Series of Poker No Limit Hold ‘em main event.

He enjoyed deep sea fishing and, like his mother, traveling to warm destinations. Most of all Rene loved having fun, cracking jokes, and truly living life to the fullest every single day. He was a life-long UCONN basketball and New York Yankees fan and loved watching and attending games. He made and cherished many lasting friendships during his time with us and will be greatly missed by all whose lives he touched.

Rene leaves behind his beloved children Aileen Charland, Glastonbury, Shane Charland and his wife Yvett, grandchildren Trinity, Quorra and Tobias, Rapid City, SD; long-time companion Katherine Sole, Marlborough; brothers Raymond Charland and companion Eileen, Somers, Richard Charland, Middletown, Robert Charland, Stafford Springs; nephew Ryan Charland, Stafford Springs; and niece Megan Charland, Enfield. Rene was predeceased by his father Robert, mother Jeanne and nephew Raymond Charland.
