Miriam Stannard Epstein of Manchester CT was born on October 7, 1942 and passed away on July 28, 2024. She was married to Howard Epstein. She and Howard lived in Manchester for many years. She is survived by her beloved husband Howard and her two daughters Amy Lynn Howard of Windsor CT, whose fiancé is Scott Anderson, and Rebecca Zwerling Morrison of Westerly RI, who is married to Brian Morrison.
Miriam always said that she had the best of everything. That she was surrounded with loving family and friends. That she loved her teaching career, having taught preschool through eighth grade. She said that she has no regrets.
After teaching for 30 years, she founded Books to Dreams (BTD) Inc., a non-profit literacy program for children in need. During the 20 years of BTD, 400,000 donated children's books were distributed in shelters and Head Start programs throughout Connecticut.
For many years Miriam and Howard enjoyed extensive travelling and were avid ballroom dancers.
The logo for Books to Dreams, Inc. included her words: "Just like the butterfly we all go through many changes before we are free to fly." Miriam is now free to fly!
Miriam will be cremated. To honor Miriam's wishes, there will be no memorial service or calling hours. Contributions can be made to Doctors Without Borders in Miriam's memory. To leave on-line condolences, please visit
