Gerard R. St. Jean

Gerard R. St. Jean, 83, of Columbia, CT died of COPD at home in the care of his children.


Gerry was born in Grand Isle, Maine on June 12, 1940 son of the late Armand St. Jean and Bernice (Corbin). He moved to Connecticut after graduating from Husson University where he served in the Army ROTC, and started his career as a programmer at Pratt and Whitney where he met his late wife, Sandra Sumner. He then worked to help the police, fire and emergency departments as a senior systems analyst for the City of Hartford, where he retired in the 1990s. He enjoyed playing guitar, tennis, golf, racquetball and was a huge fan of Elvis Presley.

He is survived by his three children, Amy St. Jean, and her husband, Brian Clark of Manchester, CT, Carolyn St. Jean, and her husband, Jason Yingling, and their sons Colby and Nathan of West Hartford, CT, Gary St. Jean and his wife Kristi and their children, Matthew, Jacob and Kayla of Marlborough, CT, his children's sister, Jennifer Potter, and her husband David Shumway, and their daughters Kayleigh and Sophia of Old Saybrook, CT. Gerry also leaves his sister Rhody and her husband, Kenneth Gagnon, brother Donald St. Jean, sister the late Jean and John Dormer and several nieces and nephews.

A wake will be held Friday, Oct. 13, from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Manchester Funeral Home, 142 E. Center St., Manchester, CT. Burial will be private in St. James Cemetery.
