Frank R. Mund Jr.

August 2, 1945 — June 9, 2025

Frank R. Mund Jr., 79, of Hebron, the beloved husband of Gwen Mund for almost 60 years, passed away on June 9, 2025 at his home after a decades-long battle with multiple sclerosis, a battle he faced with unshakable courage, dignity, and grace.
Born on August 2, 1945 in Middletown, CT, Frank was the son of the late Frank Mund Sr. and Laura Mund. He grew up in Marlborough, was a standout baseball player at RHAM High School and heavily recruited by college baseball teams. It was at RHAM High School that he met the love of his life, Gwen Ellis.
He was a proud veteran of the Vietnam War, where he served in the United States Marine Corps with quiet distinction and honor, bearing the details of that service privately for much of his life.
After returning home from service, Frank built his life around faith, family, and hard work. He and Gwen raised their family in Hebron, CT, as part of Gwen’s family’s dairy farm, and creating a warm, stable home marked by unconditional love, deep values, and laughter. Even after retiring from farming due to MS, Frank launched another chapter as a small business owner, long after his body tried to slow him down.
Frank was a protector and a provider. He didn’t talk about love, he lived it. He showed up, always. An avid outdoorsman, Frank found joy in fishing, hunting, working the land, and spending time in nature. His life was a reflection of service, integrity, and love for those around him.
Though he lived his faith quietly, it ran deep. That quiet faith guided him throughout his life.
Frank is survived by his loving wife Gwen; his children Christopher (Kathryn) Mund, Benjamin (DeLynn) Mund, and Daniel (Bronwyn) Mund; grandchildren Wyatt, Clara, Laura, Eleanor, Isabel, Charlotte, Samuel, River, Petal, and Sparrow; his sisters, Beverly Shipman and Audrey Mund, brother-in-law Ned Ellis (Renee) and sisters-in-law Connie Wilson (Tim), Chris Irish (Preston) and Marilyn Swenson (Greg), as well as many extended family members, dear friends, and neighbors who were blessed by his strength, wisdom, and love.
Calling Hours will be held on Sunday, June 29, from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. at Manchester Funeral Home, 142 E. Center Street, Manchester, CT. A Funeral Service will be held Monday, June 30 at 10:00 a.m. at Avery Street Christian Reformed Church, 661 Avery St, South Windsor, CT, (streamed at ascrc.org) followed by burial with military honors at Gilead Cemetery in Hebron.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Frank’s memory to Joni & Friends ( https://joniandfriends.org/ ).
Frank’s life was a testament to quiet courage, steady love, and a deep sense of duty to others. He will be remembered for his strength, his humor, and above all, his unwavering commitment to the people he loved.
