Ronald A Gustafson

Ronald A. Gustafson, 79, of Waterford, formerly of Manchester, beloved husband for over 50 years of the late Barbara (Pastula) Gustafson passed away peacefully with his family at his side at Fairview Nursing Home in Groton on Tuesday, August 21, 2018. Ron was born on February 7, 1939 in Manchester the only son of the late Helmer and Katherine (Turek) Gustafson. He was raised in Manchester, attended local schools and had been a lifelong resident until moving to Waterford in 2011. Ron was a proud veteran of the US Army serving his country in the 101st Airborne from 1958-1964 before becoming a Town of Manchester Firefighter where he served for over 27 years. Ron enjoyed fishing, kayaking and completing crossword puzzles. He was a member of the SMURFFS, the Zipser Club and a former member of the Manchester Army & Navy Club. He is survived by his two children; Robin Dousis and her husband Leonidas of Waterford and Ronald M. Gustafson and his wife Karen also of Waterford, his three loving grandchildren; Jamilee Dousis and her daughter Brooklyn, Ashley Robbins and her husband Justin and their children; Isabella, Alivia, Peyton and Alayna, and Josef Gustafson, his mother-in-law Bernice Pastula of Waterford and his aunt Georgieanna LaFranchise of Manchester.Calling hours will be held at Manchester Funeral Home, 142 East Center St. in Manchester on Saturday August 25, 2018 from 10 am- 12 noon. A graveside service with Military Honors will follow in St. John the Baptist Polish National Catholic Cemetery on Jefferson St. in Manchester at 12:30 pm.
