Robert L. Mullaney, 84, of Manchester, beloved husband of the late Joan (Wrightson) Mullaney passed away Monday, October 30, 2017. Robert was born in Hartford on April 29, 1933, son of the late Raymond J. and Ellen G. (Murphy) Mullaney. He resided in Manchester for most of his life, graduating from Manchester High, and later from Trinity College in Hartford, where he received Masters Degrees in English and Education. Bob was a U.S. Army Veteran, serving his country from 1955-58 in the medical corps. He was employed as an English teacher for 29 years at East Hartford High School before retiring in 1988. Robert was a devoted communicant and Eucharistic Minister at St. Bridget Church in Manchester for many years.  

After retiring, Bob was an active volunteer at Trinity College and often attended their Football and Squash games. He enjoyed many years of membership at the Hartford Symphony and Hartford Stage Company. Other hobbies included following the Yankees, bowling, golf, and later playing pool at the Manchester Senior Center. He always loved family vacations on the coast of Maine.

Robert is survived by his loving family, two sons Michael L. Mullaney of Boston, MA and John R. Mullaney and his wife Karen of Amston, CT; a daughter Mary T. Mullaney and her husband Ralph Mossman of Driggs, ID; two grandchildren, Daniel J. Mullaney and Hannah J. Mullaney; a sister, Marilyn Sages and her husband Douglas of Palm City, FL; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents and his wife, Robert was predeceased by a sister, Nancy Zablocki.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, Nov. 4, at 8 a.m. at Manchester Funeral Home, 142 E. Center Street Manchester, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial Saturday, 9 a.m. at St. Bridget Church, 80 Main Street Manchester. Burial will follow with military honors in St. James Cemetery, Manchester. Family and friends may call Friday, Nov. 3 from 5-7 PM at the funeral home.
