Irene B Stephens

Irene B. (Brown) Stephens, 102, of Manchester, CT passed away Tuesday, March 27, 2018 at her home. Irene was born in 1915 in Mansfield, CT and was the daughter of the late Frank and Rose (Psota) Brown.

Irene was the family matriarch. Her mother died when Irene was twelve and she helped her father raise her three brothers Leo, Stanley and Edward and her sisters Francis and Ruth on the family farm where the family business, Spring Brook Ice Company, was located in Mansfield, CT.  She married the late Edward J. Stephens and was a full-time homemaker who raised her three children Christine, Mark and Edward. Irene also helped her son Ed raise her two grandchildren Micheline and Scott.

Irene, her husband and her son Ed co-founded the E. J. Stephens Company where she ran the finance department.  Irene enjoyed playing her baby grand piano and was a gifted artist whose home is filled with her oil, pastel, water color, wood block and etchings. Her country garden was always full of beautiful blooming flowers from early spring through the late fall. She started driving at age 12 and continued until she was 98.

She is survived by her three children, her two grandchildren and two great grandchildren Skylar and Dillon. Irene and her family would like to express a Heart Felt Thank You to her care givers Janina, Maria, Grace, Lusyna, Margaret, Omadai, Lillian and Dorothy and her hospice nurse Cindy, for their loving support that provided a great quality of life until the day she peacefully passed.

There will be no calling hours. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Tuesday, April 3, 2018 at 10:00 AM, at Saint James Church, 896 Main St., Manchester, CT 06040 followed by burial at St. Joseph Cemetery in Willimantic, CT.
